Book Description

A view of the "long, rectangular plain" of Atlantis, currently lying one mile under the waters of the eastern Mediterranean Sea.

After nearly a decade of research, the lost island of Atlantis has been located by author Robert Sarmast. At a location on the sea floor of the Eastern Mediterranean region, stretching between Cyprus and Syria, Sarmast has discovered a site that matches Plato’s famed account of Atlantis with astonishing accuracy.

Discovery of Atlantis provides unmistakable evidence that almost every clue in Plato’s description of the legendary continent perfectly correlates with this discovery. In particular, it shows the location of the rectangular plain of Atlantis, as well as all the other key geographic features that Plato cites—including the precise location of its capital—Atlantis City!  The book goes on to provide a stunning link between this hard scientific data and the biblical legend of the Garden of Eden—and on to the entire mythological landscape of the planet.

KEY FINDINGS OF Discovery of Atlantis

The match to Plato’s Atlantis clues is by far the best in history. All other extant theories base themselves on a small percentage of Plato’s clues and are often pure speculation. Scholars in this field know that any credible claim to have located Atlantis must use Plato’s famed account found in his Timaeus and Critias.  these classic ancient dialogues remain the sole source for the Atlantis legend.  The author is unusual in joining robust scientific data with multidimensional analysis that incorporates ancient history, mythology, archaeology and architecture.

Discovery of Atlantis demonstrates how these topics, including the biblical legend of the Garden of Eden and other stories of the prehistoric origin of culture must all be considered when attempting to make sense of Plato’s story.

It refutes previous theories by contrasting them with Plato’s story and the circumstantial evidence provided by the various research disciplines.

This is the first Atlantis book to utilize state-of-the-art oceanographic research and display technology (heretofore used exclusively for underwater oil exploration) to depict an actual underwater site for Atlantis.  These high-resolution maps were created especially for his research and they show the Levantine basin and the Cyprus Arc in high-resolution detail for the first time in history. Produced professionally by sophisticated computer programs used for underwater oil exploration, these maps and models were created using scientific data obtained from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, which were originally released to the international community only a decade ago.  The data was obtained in 1987 during a scientific survey of the northeastern Mediterranean Sea (Cruise 5 of the Research Vessel ‘Adademik Nikolaj Strakhov’), conducted by the Geological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences with the collaboration of the Geological Survey of Israel.

While matching all the clues of the physical site, Sarmast ranges into other disciplines to achieve a match with nearly every other clue that Plato lists. The nearly 50 matches he has made with Plato’s clues extend from the philosopher’s claim that elephants once lived on Atlantis, to the mineral composition of the island, to mythological figures associated with the legend.

The author’s correlations with world mythology constitute an exciting breakthrough in the study of ancient myth. In particular, Sarmast shows links to the story of Eden and to myths of the “pure land” in ancient cultures the world over. He provides a new and unprecedented connection back to Atlantis as the original source and font of these legends.

Sarmast lends new credibility to Plato’s account of Atlantis. Crucial here is the recent scientific proof of a catastrophic flood of the entire Mediterranean basin due to the destruction of the Gibraltar dam. This accepted fact of natural history substantiates Plato’s claim that an epochal flood “swallowed up” the mountainous island of Atlantis. It lends credence to Sarmast’s contention that Plato’s overall presentation is historically accurate.

For all of its brilliance, the evidence unveiled in Discovery of Atlantis is only the first step in a series of discoveries to come. The next task is to actually explore this small strip of the Cyprus Arc with submersible equipment to verify the existence of archeological evidence of the sunken civilization.

Even as these words are being written, filmmakers and scientists are mobilizing for one of the most exciting expeditions in history. The story of this historic expedition will be covered in upcoming sequels.

This may be the first time in history that humankind has been able to locate and eventually film the colossal ruins of this once mighty empire, and proceed to resurrect it from its watery tomb.  The world may never be the same.
